I built this M8B nine years ago for the Pendles Convention
I slosh cast a Betta M8A vacform shell and used a second clear vacform shell for the windscreen.
The resin shell was then altered to M8B spec.
The scratchbuilt interior, all out of plastic card except the driver figure and the engine intakes.
Painted interior ready for fitting.
My scratchbuilt chassis
The rear wing was fitted into tubing and held in by tension, it has never come out during racing but is pulled out to remove the bodyshell.
Ready for painting.
Painted and I used Patto decals.

Hi David, I note the interior which is very neat and on a car like this quite prominent.
Could you please advise the source of the driver figure?
Thanks, Peter.

Another beauty.....thank you for sharing the images. How did it perform, that chassis suggests it went very well.

Hi Peter, I know David will get back to you, but I know the answer. The driver in the McLaren M8B looks suspiciously like a Maximodels driver by Max Winter. This in turn was a copy of the body from the Matchbox Surtees, with a custom built head. Unfortunately they are no longer available. I do have one in my parts box....now if we could persuade John Warren to mold some?

I am pretty sure I have that one already under control....however the figure I have is headless so you can choose your topping.

Yes it is the Maxi-Models figure, any of the Immense Miniatures heads could be fitted to a re-pop I suppose.
The car did perform quite well even though it only had the one race at Pendles, there hasn't been another event that it qualifies for since then.

Thanks Chris, John and David.
John has a good range and will supply me not only with the driver I need for the M1A but the figures/heads for many other cars.
Peter.
