In my quest to build a number of cars from the 1951 Le Mans grid I was lucky enough to be gifted this kit from a very good friend. Highway Pioneers Ferrari 340 America. The moulded body parts are quite crisp and the surface detail is very good for such an old model, although the use of black plastic is a little daunting as I wonder how it will take paint. Anyway here are a couple of images, box artwork and sprues. More on the build as progress is made. Eric

Some progress. After separating the various body panels from the sprues a dry fit was tried holding everything together with Tamiya masking tape. The dash panel is a separate part and this was fitted, the seat upper backs cut away with a razor saw and then a new cockpit tray made from plastic card to allow for fitting of a PCS chassis. I used liquid glue to secure the body components together and then left it to fully cure. Some filling with milliput was required in certain areas and then a coat of red oxide plastic primer was applied followed by a wet flat and top coat of Tamiya Italian red. The cockpit has been masked to avoid too much paint in that area. Next is a polish and then chassis fitting. To be continued. thanks for reading Eric

Hi Eric.
I look forward to progress on this one. I did one many years back which I'm sure had a channel section aluminium chassis. I've had a second on the go for several years which I'm sure I'd find if I really looked hard.
Keep it up, Peter.

Firstly apologies these pictures are not brilliant and the colour on this car does not seem to photo very well. It is a much brighter red than appears on here. Some progress, the chassis is under the car (PCS) and the wheels and tyres fitted. The wheels need repainting silver and then the details can be added. The dashboard detail is quite crisp and detail can be picked out by careful application and dry brushing.
to be continued...

The Ferrari 340 is now finished. It does look brighter and redder in reality but I have struggled to get a decent image of the car. I shall have to experiment with some different setting.

I built one of these many years ago, and have another 'in progress" (for the last 6 years perhaps?). I think the number was fictional. The wheels were Scaley , or most of them anyway... Some mods at the rear end. A very simple channel section chassis in 16g aluminium. One of the cars I wish I had kept, but then I do have the other one... Peter.

That is very nice Peter. I like the mods you have done to the rear of the car. If a kit cropped up for sale I would have a go at another one.
