The Mercedes is the second of 2 models I'm building for next years IPS series. Using one of Dave Jones very fine body shells, the model will be based upon the Moss/Collins 1955 Targa Florio #104 entry. I'm currently in two minds whether or not to build the model in start line or finish line appearance. There are very photos of the car on-line or in any of my reference books illustrating the car before it got very second hand looking following Moss's excursion in the early part of the race. I've started making various gaps and holes for all the extra bits and will post more photos as it takes shape.

A little more work on the Merc including the addition of a set of Peter's fine wheels. I decided to model the car in race damaged appearance. Still plenty to do and a things will will be altered during the build, but it's slowly taking shape.

Lovely job there Dave. I have a similar project in mind the Moss winning car from the 1955 Dundrod Tourist Trophy. In that race the rear offside tyre exploded damaging the rear wing. Moss pulled into the pits on the next lap where the Mercedes pit crew tidied up the damage giving the car more of a cutaway drawing look. I dare say he would have been black flagged these days. Interesting model and approach. I shall be following with keen interest.

I too have one of these in the pipeline, in my case it will be using the greater part of the Scalextric Mille Miglia body.
Since I'm already working on the Dundrod MGA, the 300SLR will also be a TT car.
May I ask (anyone) what decals are made, if any?
Thanks, Peter.

Pattos Place produce a variety of Mercedes decals from the 1950s. I know they're not everyone's favourites, but I've always found them perfectly adequate and not too expensive. www.pattosplace.com/

I did look up Patto's, but they only list decals for the Mille Miglia, and even those seem to include neither Mercedes badges nor 300SLR badges.

Dave, you gave some nice action to the driver figure Nicely dinged-up car as well! What did you use to get the decals to conform to those crazy compound curves?

Thanks Marc. The decals did put up an impressive fight, but I managed eventually calm them down using Vallejo decal softener. The two cars are now almost ready for posting off to Greece for next years IPS Proxy.
