Hello members,
I’m happy to introduce you to my latest hand-made Slot Car.
In 1928, the Bentley team entered three Super Sport 4.4 liters, two of which, No. 2 and No. 3, have a light coach body made for Le Mans by Vanden Plas on a specific Bentley chassis (engine, bonnet, radiator etc.). The cockpit structure is made of ash wood covered with fabric. At the rear is placed the fuel tank, covered with a light alloy shell, and the spare wheel. It was for this rear form that it was called “Bobtail”. The third car, No. 4, is a classic four-seater Tourer.
F. Clement and J. Benjafield are on No. 2. They finally retire to the 71st lap (1225.6km) after the rupture of an oil pipeline.
Driving No. 3 H. Birkin and J. Chassagne finish 5th at an average speed of 97.3km/h. Birkin crossing the last lap line set a new record at 127.6km/h (8'07”- circuit of 17.262km) held by W. Barnato (8'17” - 125.04km/h) and beats by 39 seconds that of 1927 held by Clement at 118.14km/h also on Bentley 4.4liter Super Sport. Definitive record since the circuit will be shortened in 1929 to 16.34km. They lose 3 hours, and the race, to Arnage because of a puncture and the absence of the jack in the vehicle. Chassagne will take the jack to Birkin on foot.
W. Barnato and B. Rubin won the distance classification at the average speed of 111.22km/h at the steering wheel of No. 4.
