I picked up this body at a recent meeting assuming that it was a Betta Classic, but it turns out that it is most likely a John Bacon remould of an AutoHobbies body:
This car has been built for CSCRA racing in the pre 1962 category. The chassis has been built from a Slot It inline pod and a brass pan and so far seems to perform reasonably well on my home track. The first real test will be at the forthcoming CSCRA meeting at Pontefract in November.
The car is modelled on the one driven by Dan Gurney at the Goodwood Tourist Trophy in 1959...probably not perfect but as close as my skills allow! Apparently in those early days he raced with a blue helmet with a white stripe.
Thanks John....the screen is home made from packaging plastic and was my best result after several attempts! I expect that the body was originally supplied with a vac formed screen back in the 1960's. Mark
I have created one off screens for a couple of builds and usually make a dummy from thin card then trace it onto the clear sheet. Sometimes I am the dummy though and have to make three or more attempts before the pattern is correct.
