hello friends Here is my interpretation of the Allard J2 . The resin kit was made by Charles Lawrence from Seattle and is based on a Scalex Lotus Seven's chassis as recommended by Charles . My pilot is from Le Mans Miniature for the body as the head is by Protoslotkit . Can't remember where the wheels are from ...sorry. I made a very simple car , not overdetailed , to stay in a " Dinky Toys mood" ( correct ?) Front mudguards are from an old Airfix kit as I never enjoyed the original Allard big ones . They are fixed with very small metal rods and it was a piece of cake to do ...... I hope you will enjoy it . Best regards . Olivier

Another nice build, Olivier and I didn't know Charles made an Allard, but why, oh why did you finish it in matt paint? It looks like primer!

hello Martin the picture is pretty bad and the paint is more between mat and gloss . I prefer mat finish and after , I give my cars a semi gloss finish by polishing with soft clothes . I'll try to satisfy you next time with more glossy finish .....and better light for my pics

Your choice, of course, but I don't think it does any vehicle, model or full size any favours. On real cars it's also porous so allows rust in. I've never seen a production vehicle finished in matt or even satin paints, despite what some claim. Ergo, a model, unless showing an old, weather-worn vehicle should be a gloss (but not glass-shiny) finish. I don't like the bucket of lacquer look that is beloved of some. Only modern vehicles have that 2 pack look.

Oliver, What a beautifully executed allard, the attention to detail is beautiful. On the photo that shows the chassis I can see how bright the red paint is, so I think the apparent dullness of the paint is caused by the flat lighting in the photo. Please don't try and satisfy Martin, you never will And Martin post a finished car please and let Oliver critique it, it's only fair. All in good fun Chris

Heavens, no hurt intended, I was just surprised at the sudden change of finish. Chris, you either get masters or built models and nobody pays me to do built models. But hold on, they used to. Let's see what I can find.

I know these aren't sports cars, but I haven't built any sports cars slot cars. But these were made for a client who liked the idea of the master maker also building the finished models. I did 10 of these for him and I've also done load of rally cars for SlotRally GB, apart from the patterns I've made him, but they're all saloon cars! Cheers, Martin

Hello Olivier, Nice job on the Allard J2. I have one of these to build and like you I was a chewing over what to do with the original mudguards. I like your very neat solution and I wondered if you could tell me which Airfix kit they came from please?
Many thanks regards Eric

My mudguards are coming from an Airfix MG Magnette . But you can also use any parts from other pre war cars kits .

An interesting follow-on from this. I went to see a restorer I know nearby yesterday, only to find a new director weedling his way in. One of his purchases, surprisingly, was an Austin Seven Special, a Super Accessories, one of the three different Specials that had a kind of poor man's 250F look to it. What I couldn't understand was why he had had the body sprayed like glass in 2 pack, till it looked like ceramic, yet the chassis and the "works" was untouched! What a stupid thing to do. White looked pretty crap on a Special, too! But semi rusted chassis tubes with the rest in red oxide and brushed black and corroded aluminium was NOT a good look. I do hope this attitude doesn't permeate a previously superb standard of restorations. I happen to know that white is still available in cellulose and anyway, brilliant washing machine white was not available in the mid fifties when these Specials were current in any medium.

Nice work Olivier. I love that long Ninco guide you have used.
I also wasn't aware that Charles did the Allard but another American did...Greg Petrolati aka Greenman62
