This car may perhaps be the subject of an experiment in order to determine the best running gear for it, though it will be pretty basic to start with. The original model was made by Slot Classic some years ago, re-popped by Ocar not so many years ago and now released by Munter. i believe the car is effectively much the same as the 1959 car except for the high screen demanded by new regulations. It may yet be finished as a '59 car if the differences are not too great, as the high screen must be a bit vulnerable at times. Initially the car has been built up on a PCS chassis, which in due course will be replaced by a fabricated aluminium chassis, and also a fabricated plastic chassis. Not a recent image. The priming is now complete and I await the opportunity to add colour. Having investigated the wheels available to suit this car, I felt it worthwhile trying my old spoke etches and wheel nuts with an existing wheel. RS Slot do the job. This car wears the prototype set. Peter.

Slow progress. The paint is now slowly curing, slow, because I really pile it on in order to achieve a good finish. Yes, I could use an air-brush. Observation of many pictures, especially contemporary ones, suggest the body could be lowered onto the chassis a little more. A few small jobs are receiving attention. The vac formed screen has almost been 'cut in', the exhausts are all but ready to fit, with both exhausts and body drilled to allow the pipes to be pinned to the body. The vac formed interior is ready to fit, the carburettor bellmouths on this car are the next to receive attention. At this rate it will probably all go together very quickly. The first chassis is now complete and runs well, giving me a good mid-range car to race if I so choose. The ally chassis will be started next week. Peter.

I'm trying out various ideas, some of my own, some from other folk. A study of images from the net shows that the TR 59/60 had a 'diaphragm' between the actual bonnet and the engine, thus the rush of air into the front opening did not pass through the engine compartment but instead created a pressure pocket under that perspex, a low pressure boost. After the first bash at a stack of bellmouths on the Maserati 151, a slightly better result was achieved for the Ferrari. The planning took for ever, the construction but a few hours. Dust of course, becomes a problem in all close ups..... Peter.

Impressive Peter, notching each one of those trumpets must have taken some time too.

Yes Chris, mods to the trumpets took a while, but it was worth it. Almost there. Screen to trim and embellish, driver goggles and height, decals and lots of detail work with paint brushes. Peter.

Another car finished. The Munter Ferrari TR59/60 is now there unless I spot something I’ve missed. Like the Ferrari badge on the nose…. Back to Maserati now perhaps... Peter.

Cracking build Peter, looks fab. Loving the boot lace ferrules. Looking forward to getting home to continue my build. What type of chassis have you used and how does she handle? Pattos decals? Thanks for sharing. Brian

Hi Brian, yes, time to finish your build!
I have a second body on the go which is actually being converted to a TR59, where I am doing some things a little differently.
The air scoops either side on the bonnet and on the rear wings are now opened out.
The dashboard is being cleaned up a little more (more drastic attention possible!).
The driver mounting diaphragm (?) and the body need proper pre-assembly to ensure a good fit. I'm sure the Ocar version I built a few years back required similar attention. The TR59 might have a George Turner 300S style driver arrangement.
This car is mounted on a PCS chassis which is ok. It is modified in that the motor has been lowered by about 1mm and the front axle travel limited. I won't be persevering with this car, so no further chassis work on it is now intended.
The decals come from the old Ocar kit. They look good but seem impervious to Micro Sol.
It goes quite well but in my view the screen, as will all vac-formed screens, could be an early casualty in racing, hence the decision to build the TR59 where a shorter, not to mention thicker screen will be fitted.
Peter.
